Former EUROMATCH-NPFL winners, Enyimba, are witnessing their worst possible in the history of the top division after failing to pick a single point in their opening four matches this season.
The People’s Elephant on Wednesday succumbed to their fourth defeat by losing 2-3 to promoted side, Sporting Lagos just four days after also losing to another Lagos club, Inter Lagos by a goal.
Both defeats happened at their Enyimba Stadium in Aba.
The former African champions had already lost at Niger Tornadoes (1-2) and Doma United (0-2) which now leaves them at the base of the league table without a point.
In Wednesday’s game against Sporting Lagos, the People’s Elephant got their noses in front through Stanley Dimgba just before the break but failed to hold on their lead as Abdullahi Abdulraqeeb levelled the score for the away team six minutes into the restart.
Tobi Ige Iyanda restored Enyimba’s lead almost immediately in the 54th minute from the spot only for Haruna Hadi to equalize for Sporting 11 minutes later.
Daniel Aboh came off the bench to score the goal that turned out to be the winner on 69 minutes.
It is the first time in 27 years that Enyimba have failed to win a match on their opening four league fixtures.
It was a good day in the office for Barau FC as they climbed to top spot following a 2-0 win over Abia Warriors.
Joseph Atule (22′) and Ibrahim Ayoola (61′) scored the goals for the Maliya Boys who remain unbeaten with 11 points from five matches.
The defending champions Rangers International left it late before they could see off an organized Ranchers Bees 1-0. Chidozie Iwundu’s goal 10 minutes to time was sufficient to earn them the full points and keep them one point behind the leaders with a game in hand.
Doma United who began the matchweek at the top of the pile dropped to third place after a 2-2 draw at home to Plateau United.
Michael Adegbite gave them a two-goal lead before Plateau United fought back to salvage a point via goals from Gideon Monday and Paul Samson.
Bendel Insurance edged past Ikorodu City 2-1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. Chinedu Nwosu opened scoring from the spot on 49 minutes before Aderemi Adeoye drew City level on 79 minutes.
Alex Oweilayefa popped up with a late winner six minutes to full-time to give Kennedy Boboye and his men their third win of the campaign.
Kwara United also win 2-1 at home after defeating Nasarawa United. Sanni Muhammed (12′) and Abdulsalam Abdulsalam (65′) scored for them while Jofrank Istifanus netted for Nasarawa United.
A goal in each half from Olanrewaju Ridwan and Qamar Adegoke ensured Shooting Stars triumphed over Katsina United who finished the final half an hour with 10 players after Ahmed Kabir Yallilo was sent off.
