Fresh from their resounding 2-0 victory over Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena at the weekend, Abia Warriors will take their improved form to the ancient city of Kano to keep a date with the high-flying Barau FC in yet another stern test.
The victory in Lagos meant more than three points for Abia Warriors – it was a statement of intent, a lifting of burden, and a spark that could ignite their season. But the real test of their resurgence comes now, as they confront one of the most formidable sides in the early stages of the 2026/27 EUROMATCH Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Their hosts, Barau FC, have been impressive so far in this season’s campaign. The Maliya Boys are yet to test defeat after four league games, playing with the mindset of a side that believes they belong at the very top.

The head-to-head offers no edge. Both sides have met twice in the league with honours evenly split – one victory apiece. It’s a rivalry forged in fine margins and fierce pride.
On their previous visit to Kano, Abia Warriors were subdued 2-0 by the hosts. That memory will loom large for the Maliya Boys, and it is a result they will be eager to replicate in front of their vociferous fans. Yet history may count for little; this is a familiar terrain where Abia Warriors have triumphed before, and they will relish what promises to be a battle of wits and willpower.
