The trio of Mohammed Rabiu Zulkifilu of Ranchers Bees, Kano Pillars defender Fabian Nworie and Doma United’s Sadiq Rilwan are the early frontrunners in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
In only his first start of the season, Zulkifilu blew apart Abia Warriors inside the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina by scoring three goals in his club’s 4-0 success on Monday to climb to the top of the goalscorers chart after just two matchweeks.
Prior to Zulkifilu taking over at the top, Rilwan scored twice against Lagos teams, Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos.
However, Rilwan remains the only who has scored in all two matchweeks this season.
He scored in Doma United’s 2-0 win over Sporting Lagos before netting the winner at Inter Lagos to help his side to a perfect start to the season.
Nworie also joins the race from his centre-back role after scoring twice in his club’s 3-2 win over Niger Tornadoes on Sunday.
It is the first time the former Remo Stars man will score twice in a single match and in a season in the top division.
