Kano Pillars claimed their second away victory of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season on Saturday edging past Bendel Insurance with a last-minute goal in a Matchday 11 fixture.
Following a scoreless first half, the game appeared to be heading for a stalemate until Rabiu Ali stole the spotlight. He converted a penalty in added time after 90 minutes, clinching the win and all three points for ‘Sai Masu Gida.’
After the regulation 90 minutes, the fourth official indicated seven additional minutes. In the final moments of injury time, ‘Sai Masu Gida’ were awarded a penalty after a Bendel Insurance defender handled the ball inside the box while attempting to block Ahmed Musa’s shot. Rabiu Ali stepped up confidently and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, dispatching the ball into the net.
This goal further extended Ali’s remarkable goal-scoring record in the NPFL and marked his sixth goal of the current season.
In his post-match interview, Kano Pillars head coach, Usman Abdallah, praised his players’ composure and resilience throughout the game.
He noted that his team have now rebounded from recent points dropped at home and is focused on maintaining their strong away form this season.
The Pyramid City side has so far collected maximum points against both Rangers and Bendel Insurance on the road and earned a point from Bayelsa United in Yenagoa.
Abdallah, a former Super Eagles assistant coach, acknowledged the overwhelming support from fans, especially during away matches, and dedicated the win to the loyal supporters who turned out in large numbers to cheer on the NPFL giants.
Kano Pillars will host Heartland FC on Matchday 12 while Bendel Insurance face Rangers International.
