As Akwa United look set to take on Kwara United in a Matchweek 10 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday, centre-back Endurance Ebedebiri says he and his teammates have resolved to redouble their efforts on the pitch to ensure the outcome of their matches reflect the team’s commitment, dedication and passion by making good use of their chances during games.
Ebedebiri who joined the Promise Keepers from Rivers United at the beginning of this season revealed that it is his responsibility and that of his teammates as professionals to prove their worth by winning matches in a way that will help redeem the image of the club in their quest to move the team out of the danger zone on the log.
The 2021 league champions are bottom of the league table on six points, comprising one victory, three draws with five loses in their opening nine matches and Ebedebiri believes that he and his teammates are the ones to prove a point on the pitch.
‘’Our current situation as shown on the league table is really worrisome and we have to turn the corner as soon as possible. It’s unbelievable that after playing nine matches this season, we are bottom of the table. In some of those matches we have played, the results did not really reflect the way we played and we know that we don’t have any excuse but to start winning games and that is why we have resolved as players that we are the ones to prove a point.
‘’As professionals it is our responsibility to put up our best for this team in every match to ensure we represent this club well, defend the badge and redeem its image.
“We have done a lot in training and we hope to replicate that during home and away matches. Our major concern is scoring and we are positive that we will get it right starting with this game against Kwara United at home this weekend’’.
Ebedebiri who has one goal to his name so far this season, appealed to all the fans to continue supporting the club and assured that the team will make them proud at the end of the season.
In the 16 previous meetings between Akwa United and Kwara United, the Promise Keepers recorded five wins to the visitor’s six while five of those meetings ended in stalemate. The home team have scored seven and conceded nine while the visitors have scored nine and conceded seven goals in nine games.
The match which is scheduled to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium will kick off from 4pm.
