Plateau United defeated Sunshine Stars on Sunday 1-0 at the New Jos Stadium, to make it two in two home victories for the “Peace Boys.”
A game of limited chances and tactical discipline ensured the scoreline remained respectable.
The only goal of the contest came in the 31st minute from a set piece from 30 yards expertly dispatched by Albert Hilary after Sunday Anthony had nudged the ball forward for him.
In his reaction, Plateau United head coach, Mbwas Mangut, rued the fact that his team were not scoring many goals but accepted that Sunshine Stars were a good side.
“Our final touches in the box have not been good enough, as you can see. We have not been scoring so many goals. But I am happy that we were able to score from a set piece which we practiced in training. We still have to work more on our scoring though.
“We have known Sunshine Stars for the past two seasons. They are very organized and frustrate teams. They are a disciplined side defensively and I must give it to them as we played a very good side today,” said Mangut.
Sunshine Stars head coach Edith Agoye also accepted that he played a good side but his team came short in his tactical plan.
“It was a very tactical game; we came up with a game plan to restrict their dominance in the field especially in the middle. Unfortunately, we conceded from a set piece.
“We played a very good side today and we will take the positives,” Agoye said.
Plateau United will travel to Gombe next matchday to play Gombe United while Sunshine Stars head to the Northwest to face Katsina United.
