Abia Warriors head coach, Erasmus Onuh has attributed Abia Warriors’ loss to Kwara United to the poor state of roads network in Nigeria.

Onu, who made the comment while speaking to journalists in Ilorin after his side’s 1-0 loss to Kwara United on Matchday 2 of the NPFL expressed the need for Nigerian league clubs to prioritise airline trip for their teams.

“Bad roads will kill our league. I think it’s time we start arranging with airlines. We got to Ilorin at 5am this morning and the stress of the journey really affected us.

“It was a terrible journey. We have been on the road since a day before yesterday and had to travel all night because of bad roads.

Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought victory for Kwara United who got their first maximum points in the league to the admiration of their home fans.

Having lost their opener to Katsina United in the first week 0-1, the Harmony Boys came in to Sunday’s game with the sole burden of impressing the Ilorin fans who had missed watching them on the home soil.

Kwara United played all their home matches at their adopted home grounds of Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan and Akure Township Stadium last season due to the re-grassing of the mainbowl of the Kwara State Stadium.

The hosts started the game brightly with a couple of goalscoring chances coming their way but failed to maximize their chances and led to a long wait before Ejeh Isaiah broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time as he tapped in from a scramble.

On the other side, the visitors would have their goalkeeper Johnson Nmecha to thank for his standout performance between the sticks in the first half.

Just two minutes to the end of the first half, Onuh replaced injured Moses Uche with Adejoh Ojonugwa who would later push the game more upward for the Warriors but lacked support upfront to make significance impact.

Head coach of Kwara United who noted that his boys gave a good account of themselves said that the team will improve in the subsequent matches.

Abia Warriors will play hosts to Kano Pillars at home in their next game before travelling to face Lobi Stars.
