Agor Chukwuma’s 64th-minute goal condemned Kwara United to a 1–0 defeat against Kun Khalifat in their Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 6 encounter at the Dan Anyam Stadium, Owerri, on Sunday.
The Harmony Boys were reduced to 10 men four minutes before the decisive goal after Mighty Emmanuel Yikat was shown a red card in the 60th minute following a rough tackle on an opponent.
The dismissal appeared to change the complexion of the encounter, with Kun Khalifat taking advantage of the numerical superiority to create pressure that eventually produced the winning goal through Chukwuma.
Kwara United, who had limited clear-cut opportunities in front of goal, struggled to make their chances count, particularly after going down to 10 men.
Despite a series of tactical substitutions from the Kwara United technical crew in an attempt to rescue a result, Kun Khalifat remained resolute at the back and successfully protected their lead to secure maximum points.
Speaking after the game, Kwara United head coach, Ashifat Suleiman, expressed disappointment with the result, but said the technical crew would continue working to make up for the lost points.
The defeat leaves Kwara United 10th on the NPFL table, while the Harmony Boys will look to return to winning ways next weekend when they take on Ranchers Bees in their Matchday 7 fixture.
