EUROMATCH-NPFL champions, Rangers International continued their title defence with a comfortable 4-2 victory at Southeast rivals, Kun Khalifat FC, on Sunday, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
Winger Chimobi Igwilo scored twice including a brilliant individual finish while Temitope Folarin and Waheed Adebayo accounted for the other goals for the champions.
The encounter saw the Flying Antelopes make it back-to-back victories in Owerri, after their 2-1 win against Nasarawa United in midweek.
The champions took a 2-1 lead into the break after Folarin and Adebayo got their goals which was sandwiched by Preye Seikorowei’s strike for Kun Khalifat FC.
In the second half, Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side produced a superior performance that led to winger Igwilo netting a brace including a stoppage time goal. Ayuba Umar scored Kun Khalifat’s second goal.
In the other game, Umuahia-based side, Abia Warriors bounced back to winning ways in a great fashion, as they ended their winless start to the campaign. Warriors beat Sporting Lagos 2-0, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Stadium in Lagos.
Ikoi Ettah and Emeka Obioma’s late goals proved sufficient for Abia Warriors to secure their first win of the season.
Imama Amapakabo’s side will be on the road once again this midweek, when they travel to Kano for a Matchday 5 clash against an in-form Barau FC, this Wednesday, at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
