Kwara United suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Warri Wolves in the EUROMATCH-NPFL Matchday 4 encounter played in Ozoro on Sunday.
An early strike from Eventus Itolowo, who converted a free-kick in the eighth minute, proved decisive as Warri Wolves secured all three points.
Despite conceding early, the Harmony Boys responded strongly and dominated much of the proceedings, with Philip Ozor and Toyeeb Gidado dictating play as Kwara United searched for an equaliser.
Jerry Alex and Emmanuel Ekpeyong came close on two occasions, while Ozor consistently delivered accurate passes to the wings, causing problems for the hosts. However, Kwara United were unable to convert their chances before the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with the visitors continuing to push for an equaliser. Tactical changes from Kwara United head coach Ashifat Suleiman almost paid off when substitute Abdulsalam Abdulsalam found himself in a promising, goal-bound situation after coming on for Ekpeyong, but the opportunity was eventually cleared.
The Harmony Boys continued to press for a point as the game entered its closing stages, with Ferinyaro producing several dangerous crosses into the box in a final attempt to unlock the Warri Wolves defence.
Speaking after the game, Suleiman expressed disappointment over his side’s inability to convert their chances, describing the missed opportunities as unfortunate.
He, however, assured that the team would work to make up for the lost points in their upcoming fixtures.
Kwara United will look to bounce back in midweek when they host Nasarawa United in an NPFL cracker in Ilorin.
Wolves would make the trip to the North Central where they face Niger Tornadoes in Minna.
