EUROMATCH-NPFL newcomers Inter Lagos, showcased an impressive performance by securing full points on the road against nine-times winners, Enyimba FC, on a rainy Sunday evening, at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
Shakiru Giwa’s side, who came into the encounter following a heavy home defeat to their city rivals, Sporting Lagos last weekend, in a Matchday 2 encounter, took a shock lead after a dramatic mixup between Enyimba goalkeeper Kelvin Ogunga and defender Peculiar Iheme.
Ezekiel Moses struck the goal that turned out to be the winner with a brilliant header in the 18th minute to silence the Enyimba supporters to put the Lagos club 1-0 ahead through to the halftime break.
In the second half, Enyimba head coach/technical adviser, Emmanuel Deutsch made three quick substitutions. He brought on Ifeanyi Ihemekwele, Obichere Odinaka and Samuel Okechukwu to help change the situation of the game for the hosts.
The hosts continued to show clear dominance with more ball possession in the final 15 minutes of the game, and nearly levelled the score when Johna James played a brilliant through ball to locate Ihemekwele but his low strike went off the crossbar.
Inter Lagos held on to secured a valuable away victory and also their first-ever win in the top division.
For Enyimba, it is a difficult start to the campaign after losing all of their three opening matches which leaves them as the only side without a point in the EUROMATCH-NPFL.
Deutsch and his men will now turn their focus to the midweek fixture at home in Aba against another Lagos club, Sporting Lagos.
