Kwara Utd cut Sanni loose after home loss

Kwara United have decided to part ways with their head coach Tunde Sanni following their 0-1 loss at home to Abia Warriors in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.

Sanni was immediately told to “step aside” by the club management after the defeat on Sunday.

Ashifat Suleiman, who is assistant to Sanni, has been handed the head coach role in interim capacity until a new coach is appointed.

“Following the disappointing home loss, Club Chairman Mr Kumbi Titiloye confirmed to the club’s media that Coach Tunde Sanni has been asked to step aside as Technical Adviser. He announced that Assistant Coach Ashifat Suleiman will take charge of the team with immediate effect,” Kwara United stated.

The loss in the NPFL comes on the back of Kwara United exiting the CAF Confederation Cup following a 5-3 defeat over two legs to Ghana’s Asante Kotoko who also won 1-0 in the second leg in Abeokuta, the adopted home ground of the Ilorin side for the CAF competition.

Kwara United failed to shake off their loss in the CAF Confederation Cup by losing to Abia Warriors whose winning goal was scored by Emeka Obioma from the spot.

Ashifat Suleiman will take charge of Kwara United this Wednesday when they face Kano Pillars in a rearranged fixture at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
