Enyimba head coach, Yemi Olanrewaju also known as Yema, has attributed his team’s failure to convert their scoring chances for their 1-1 draw with Niger Tornadoes in Wednesday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Yema was left frustrated as his side could not convert chance after chance before substitute Chinedu Ufere scored to cancel an earlier goal by Godstime Joseph to ensure they got a point.
The 32-year-old coach believes that his side will learn from the situation and will improve on their finishing ahead of subsequent matches.
“I feel terribly bad. This is because the first 20 minutes was hell. We didn’t come to the party; I’m so disappointed. We created a lot of opportunities today, but unfortunately, we weren’t able to capitalize on them. It’s a frustrating aspect of the game, but we need to learn from these misses and improve our finishing,” he told reporters after the match at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba.
“Sometimes, the ball just doesn’t want to go in. It’s part of football. We’ll keep working hard on our shooting and hopefully, things will turn around soon.
“Before they scored, we could have scored three or four goals. We need to improve on (our) goalscoring. If we must win the league we must improve.”
The nine-time Nigerian league champions have now gone two games without a win, and will be on the road this weekend, when they travel to Maiduguri to face El-Kanemi Warriors in a Matchday 8 encounter, on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
