Enyimba snatched a point in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 7 midweek encounter against Niger Tornadoes, thanks to a late strike from second half substitute Chinedu Ufere. The match ended 1-1.
The clash which took place at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, saw the visitors Niger Tornadoes take the lead after 41 minutes through Joseph Godstime, who cut inside his marker from a brilliant Papa Daniel’s cross to slot home the opener. Tornadoes went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Enyimba head coach Yemi Olanrewaju Daniel made a couple of changes with the introduction of Chinedu Ufere and Joseph Atule to replace Austin Onyemachi and Alade Balogun.
With just 25 minutes left to play in the game, Godstime had a brilliant chance to double Tornadoes’ lead but his low strike went behind the goal.
Ufere’s goal to level the score at 1-1 came in the 76th minute when he headed home a follow-up after a delightful cross from Uwana Asuquo was initially touched onto the crossbar.
The result means the People’s Elephant failed to win at home for the first time this season.
The nine-time champions will now face El-Kanemi Warriors on Matchday 8 in Maiduguri this Sunday.
