Doma United put their neighbours Gombe United to the sword in a Matchday 7 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) when they ran out 3-0 winners at the Pantami Stadium on Sunday.
Meeting for the first time in the top division with Gombe United playing hosts, Emmanuel Ekpeyong and Emmanuel Jesam scored second half goals to ensure Doma United won three-nil.
After a goalless first half, Ekpeyong began the scoring on 50 minutes before Jesam struck twice on 52 and 83 minutes to seal a big win for Doma United over their city rivals.
Emmanuel Ekpeyong scored the opener and Jesam struck twice to give Doma United a dominant derby day victory at neighbors Gombe United.
For Gombe United, it is a second defeat in a row and there are signs that Mohammed Baba Ganaru has work to do, especially in defence, where his team looked far from convincing. Doma United brutally exploited the defensive frailties of Baba Ganaru’s side to good effect.
On both occasions when Jesam scored, he used his pace to devastating effect.
Doma United were largely comfortable despite Gombe United goalkeeper Itodo Akor brilliantly denying the away side two one-on-one chances.
Doma United goalkeeper Kingdom Osayi also had work to do at some point when he pushed away Ahmed Jimoh’s goal-bound bicycle kick to safety.
Gombe United have now lost their last two games and will make the trip to Ikenne to face Remo Stars in Matchday 8 while Doma United will play hosts to struggling Akwa United.
