Rabiu Ali played a central role in Kano Pillars’ 1-0 victory over Rivers United in one of Sunday’s Matchday 4 schedule as the ‘Sai Masu Gida’ maintained their perfect home record.
Ali pounced on a loose ball in the second minute of added time of the second half in Rivers United’s box defence to fire home the winner.
The former Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, who won their first home game of the season against Katsina United took control of the game after Anthony Ohaegbu received his second booking and was sent off by the centre referee Musibaudeen Ibrahim.
The Pride of Rivers had their moments which were few and far between but could not trouble Muhammed Ogiri Galadima who was in goal for Kano Pillars.
Andy Okpe was a worrying figure for the Pillars’ defence but was stopped on different occasions by Galadima who was in control of his territory.
Former Kano Pillars striker, Nyima Nwagua who currently plays for Rivers United had an evening to forget as he posed no threat to his former employers.
Kano Pillars travel to face Enugu Rangers next matchday while Rivers United hosts Lobi Stars.
