Akwa United young sensation Kemfon Davidson says making his first appearance in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday is a dream come true for him and promised to make a positive contribution to the club’s quest this season.
Kemfon was a 72nd minute substitute who replaced Seyi Oguntayo in a tactical switch and the tricky winger played the remaining 18 minutes of the game helping the Promise Keepers to secure a 1-1 draw against Abia Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
The youngster, who joined Akwa United from NLO outfit Palm Syrup FC during the 2023-24 mid-season transfer window, didn’t feature for the club in any competitive match last season but has been identified by coach Muhammed Baba Ganaru as an integral part of the team this season.
“I was happy when the coach selected me among the players that will play on Sunday and it was a dream come true for me because it was the first time I was named in a matchday squad.
“The moment I will never forget was when the coach said to me, Kemfon, I know you can make a difference in this match, go in there and prove your worth. Although I didn’t score in the match, I’m very excited that the opportunity I was waiting for came and I did all I could and I’m particularly happy that I was on the pitch when we got that equalizer.
“It was my first NPFL match and I have this confidence that I will have more and more opportunities to play and to score goals for this club”.
Kemfon showed glimpses of brilliance and made an impact on the left wing when he was introduced in the second half.
The youngster who was the top scorer in the 2023 NLO play-offs is exceptionally quick with amazing skills and has great eyes for goals.
