Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Enyimba, have promoted their assistant coach, Olanrewaju Yemi Daniel, to the role of head coach at the club following the departure of Finidi George.
Finidi, who led the People’s Elephant to win the title last season with Daniel assisting, has now been appointed the Super Eagles head coach.
Yema, as Daniel is nicknamed, has often stepped in for Finidi in acting head coach capacity whenever he went on international assignment while serving as assistant coach to Jose Peseiro with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The two-time champions explained that they have handed the role of head coach to Daniel due to “his commitment, expertise, and leadership qualities.”
“In light of Coach George’s departure, Enyimba FC is pleased to announce the promotion of Assistant Coach Olanrewaju Yemi Daniel ‘Yema’ to the position of Head Coach until the end of the season. Yema has been an integral part of the coaching staff, demonstrating his commitment, expertise, and leadership qualities throughout his tenure,” a statement from Enyimba revealed on Thursday.
Daniel, currently studying for his UEFA B badge, is expected to fill the role for the remaining matches of this season.
“Yema will see out the remainder of the season, ensuring stability and continuity for Enyimba FC as they continue to compete,” Enyimba stated.
He is expected to begin his tenure as Enyimba head coach when he returns from Scotland where he is currently studying for his coaching licence.
Enyimba will continue the final stretch of the season with a mouthwatering fixture against city rivals, Abia Warriors this Sunday.
